Terfs, Gold Stars and Trans misogyny that exists within porn.

Being a Gold Star lesbian isn’t an act of trans misogyny. Saying you are a gold star because you don’t like dick however is. Clearly due to the fact that some men have vaginas, some women have penises and there are people are intersex people and non binary people. What saying I don’t like dick so I’m a gold star lesbian means further is you don’t view trans men as men and you don’t view trans women as women. If you are a lesbian you are attracted to women and everyone has their attractions but we need to be aware that the society around us effects our attractions. The concept that trans people, people of size and people of color are just simply not attractive to some is completely missing the systematic oppression of our bodies leading to them being view as undesirable. This is in no way forcing anyone into anything they aren’t into but rather looking deeper and realize our attraction are very much environmental. Regardless excluding entire groups who fit into your sexuality (like trans women, black women or women of size if you are a lesbian) is completely buying into the concept that only white skinny and cis can be attractive. Saying you would never date a person of color or a trans person as a white cis woman is viewing these groups as a monolith compared to viewing them as women who are as worth as you. Rather saying I have never been attracted to a trans person wouldn’t be problematic but viewing the whole group as a monolith saying I would never be attracted to a trans person is really viewing an entire group as unattractive which where trans misogyny comes into play. Instead of just defacto saying those people aren’t attractive it may have to do with the larger beauty standards that are valued within our society. Anyone’s personal life is their business and in no way am I or any other trans person trying to talk terf lesbians into being into trans women but where it is completely open for critique is within women’s spaces and porn casting policy. If we are going to treat porn like a real multi-billion dollar industry we need to hold it up to the same standards as any other business. People used the concept that people wouldn’t want to watch a black baseball player pre breaking of the color barrier in baseball and that same argument is being used today within porn towards people of color, people of size, people with disabilities and trans people. This doesn’t mean sites should accept every single model no matter what but instead of focusing on largely white skinny cis women start to add diversity more within their work. Niches are still where women of size, people of color and trans people are stuck in porn. Within these niches there is often extremely offensive terms used to describe performers and in the case of trans porn, performer going off their hormones which is extremely unsafe.  The case that trans people, people of color and people of size don’t belong in porn is as much about porn as it is our struggle as a culture to rid ourselves of thin european body standards for what is attractive. In the industry some of the biggest names of the last 10 years in porn have been with performers have been women of color such as Skin Diamond and Asa Akira. I became the first ever trans God’s Girl in January and despite the massive fallout so many people in the industry predicted it went extremely smooth along with a ton of free press for Gods Girls and getting a 92% approval rate that is higher than most non trans performers for the site. Porn and our culture keeps telling us we aren’t wanted but the truth is people are attracted to people of color, people of size and trans people and just because this is what porn has been doesn’t mean we are confined to keep repeating with the same beauty standards over and over again while oppressing sexual minorities.
